Of the three greatest bluegrass flatpickers (Tony, Norman Blake and Doc Watson), I think Tony has (or had) the best voice AND the most skill on the guitar. Just my opinion, but his guitar could sound like 3 separate guitars playing at the same time and still pour out a sweet melody. Watching him get together with Doc and Norman on Salt Creek still blows my mind.

saw tony rice at watseka theatre watseka illinois in May. Tony was incredible. I am going to Ricky Skaggs also in watseka on august 26. cant wait.

I love this piece.. never grow tired of it. But he is also using his middle and ring fingers on occasion, not only on this piece but on other vids Ive seen. Whatever makes the sound I don’t care. Legendary and visionary musician.
