Dire Straits Brothers in Arms Cover – Knopfler Guitar Style

My attempt at Brothers In Arms, from the 1985 album by Dire Straits. Played with an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, through a Boss volume pedal, into a Boss BR-600 8 track recorder. The recorder is playing the backing track and recording the guitar signal. The line out from the recorder is fed into the video camera. The backing track is available from www.licklibrary.com – the actual page is: www.licklibrary.com Hope you like it. As I say in the vid, it’s not that technically demanding, but you have to be careful with muting inparticular. Something Knopfler seems to do with ease, whereas I still have to think about it! For anyone thats interested, I always play ‘Knopfler Style’ with my fingers. I am *completely* useless with a pick. Recently (since I got the Les Paul) I’ve also grown my finger and thumb nails and changed my style a little to pick with my nails rather than the skin of my fingers. This gives much more ‘attack’. Lack of attack was never a problem with any of my single coil Strat type guitars, but it was an immediate problem as soon as I got the Les Paul, which sounded horribly muddy and muffled. Playing with the fingernails fixed it! I have an MP3 of this (much better sound) if anyone wants a copy, let me know and I’ll tell you where you can download it! All the best Mark.

KING CRIMSON – EPITAPH

This title is taken from King Crimson´s album, ” In the Court of the Crimson King” (1969 / England) King Crimson is an English rock band, founded in 1969 by guitarist Robert Fripp and drummer Michael Giles. en.wikipedia.org Official Website: www.king-crimson.com Robert Fripp – guitar Greg Lake – bass guitar, vocals Ian McDonald – keyboards, mellotron, reeds and woodwind, vibraphone, vocals Michael Giles – drums, percussion, vocals Peter Sinfield – lyrics, illumination Barry Godber – painted the album cover Epitaph: (Fripp, McDonald, Lake, Giles, Sinfield) The wall on which the prophets wrote Is cracking at the seams. Upon the instruments of death The sunlight brightly gleams. When every man is torn apart With nightmares and with dreams, Will no one lay the laurel wreath When silence drowns the screams. Confusion will be my epitaph. As I crawl a cracked and broken path If we make it we can all sit back And laugh. But I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying, Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying. Between the iron gates of fate, The seeds of time were sown, And watered by the deeds of those Who know and who are known; Knowledge is a deadly friend When no one sets the rules. The fate of all mankind I see Is in the hands of fools. Confusion will be my epitaph. As I crawl a cracked and broken path If we make it we can all sit back And laugh. But I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying, Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying.

Where you can hear a country song song from far and someone plays the honky-tonk guitar Where all the lights will go out one by one the people join the sun and the wind takes it away Where the Mississippi falls down to the sea and lovers found the place thhhey’d like to be how many times before the song was ending love and understanding everywhere around Mississippi, I’ll remember you whenever I should go away I’ll be longing for the day that I will be returning again Mississippi, you’ll be on my mind everytime I hear this song Mississippi roll along until the end of time Now the country song for ever lost its soul when the guitar player turned to rock & roll and everytime when the summernights are falling I will always be calling dreams of yesterday
