During the first phase of learning and mastering the guitar you will want to get familiar with your guitar by getting down the basics of scales, guitar chords and rhythm and learn how to play cords like E, C and A which are called “major” cords. Some free information online that will help you will be YouTube, about.com and ehow.com just to name some.

You need to learn gradually and ensure that it stays fun by putting down the guitar and taking breaks when you feel frustrated. Giving your hard time and saying negative items to yourself like “GOD why do I SUCK SO HARD??!” isn’t the method to master anything let alone a guitar.

Quality of sound is definitely important to learn and master in the beginning as with tuning your guitar and understanding how to get it done by ear is one of the first accomplishments you’ll make.
