Learning Guitar Is Not All Hard Work. It Can Be Easy and Simple

Learning Guitar Is Not All Hard Work. It Can Be Easy and Simple

Is it possible to learn and play guitar through an easy and simple way? Yes, of course! However, it requires much of your dedication and passion. The art of flawless guitar play needs you to keep practicing it constantly. You will need discipline and a good memory in order to be able to play guitar effortlessly.

You may choose to learn guitar by yourself or to find a teacher to teach you how to play guitar. In my opinion, it is better to get a teacher. A good teacher will point out your mistakes and correct them. At the same time, he can give your tips, hints and tricks on guitar techniques. In fact, it will help to shorten your learning curve as the teacher would have experienced the pleasures and pitfalls during the journey of learning guitar himself.

By being totally focused during your training, you can acquire the needed guitar skills within the time frame of a few days. One 6-hour lesson is better than eight individual 1-hour sessions. In fact, your brain will absorb more knowledge and you can advance to a higher level of learning faster.

When you first start to learn guitar, you have to get to know your guitar instrument and its various parts. After which, you have to know how to position yourself and how to hold the guitar properly. Slouching with a guitar on hand is definitely going to cause you a sore back. Typically, for a right-handed, the headstock is at the opposite side of your master hand. The guitar body normally will rest upon your right leg. Next, the thumb of your fretting (left) hand should rest behind the neck of the guitar, with your fingers in a slightly curled position, poised above the strings. Your right hand will be used to pick or strum the guitar strings.

All the while, when you are playing the guitar, the fingers are doing most of the work. Your fingers will need to move between frets and strings or pluck and strum the guitar. As such, you must train to move your fingers in a controlled and relax manner. You have to teach and coordinate the joints and muscles of your fingers so that they will move smoothly and easily on the guitar. This takes time and practices to achieve.

But there is a way to shorten the time and effort, and double the results.

In the initial stage of learning guitar, there is a lot of hard work and effort required. Some point of time, you will reach a stage where you are mentally and physically exhausted and will feel like giving up. But as long as you have a passion for music, you will get through even the toughest moments.

What You Need to Know to Start Playing Guitar

What You Need to Know to Start Playing Guitar

A person who wants to learn to play the guitar will need a determined mind, skillful hand and love for music. Unlike the belief of many people, guitar is easy to learn. You just have to learn it step by step to finally get to your goal to become a good guitar player. There are several things you need to establish before getting on with your guitar lessons.

First thing is to do is to motivate your mindset to learn the instrument and finish the lessons. Be focused on one specific goal which is to be able to play the guitar. Start the lesson from the first step taking each step at a time. Do not jump from one lesson to another without making sure that you fully know how to apply the lesson in actual playing.

Know how to read and play chords. Keep in mind that you cannot play a single song without knowing how to read chords. This is an important factor for you to be successful in your guitar lessons. As you learn how to read chords, try to play it also with your guitar. Keep on practicing the chords until you perfect them. This will help you play simple songs eventually.

It will also help if your sense of hearing goes well with your playing. It is important that you practice hearing songs as a player and not as a listener. As a player, your sense of hearing is more focused on the chords, notes and melodies of the song. This will help you to easily remember chords and possibly play the song with your guitar.

Get formal lessons if you have the resources and time. It is very different when you take the lessons from a teacher that can teach step by step procedure on how to play the guitar properly. Though you can also learn from friends or self taught method, but it is still better to learn all the basics and fundamentals of playing the guitar.

Practice each and every lesson that you have learned. This will help you remember everything easily. This can also push you to start learning to play songs through your guitar. It is very true that practice makes perfect.

And lastly, enjoy the lessons and learning. This is what is important in every task that you need to learn. Having fun and enjoying what you do will help you get to your goal easily and smoothly. If you enjoy things, you will be motivated to do it more often and perfect it. If you can, teach others who would also like to learn how to play the guitar. Learning is fun when you have someone to share your knowledge and skills with.

Learning to play the guitar does not happen overnight. It requires time and effort from you who wants to learn to play the instrument. But if you eventually have learned the skill, you will feel all the rewards it offers. Your determination and love for music are the key to become a good guitar player.

Guitar lesson: Learn To Read Sheet Music

Guitar lesson: Learn To Read Sheet Music

A guitar is a fantastic instrument to play. It is easy to play and very difficult depending on what you play. Let’s take a look at learning to play guitar sheet music!

I have found in my teaching experiences that many pupils find reading sheet music on guitar to be very difficult.

Admittedly there are a lot of factors that make reading guitar sheet music notation more of a challenge than on other instruments in certain aspects.

However, the most important factor is in my opinion that many guitarists never decide to learn to find the notes on the guitar. Instead they cultivate the habit of listening, playing and calculating where the specific note probably is to be played on the guitar.

Such a strategy is too slow to make it possible to sight read sheet music on guitar. A wish and then a decision to really start learning the notes on the guitar is much better than to use the before mentioned method to find the notes.

You have to start from where you are if you want to progress and become a good sight reader on guitar.

In my teaching experiences I have found that many people that play guitar wants to be somewhere else than where they ought to be.

The problem with playing too difficult guitar pieces is that it’s difficult to develop note reading skills, learning to sight read and of course to learn the guitar pieces properly.

We will start this little tutorial on reading guitar sheet music by finding a few notes on the guitar fretboard.

You will find the note E on the first open string if your guitar is tuned with the most conventional tuning. This note can also be found on the second string and the fifth fret.

E on the third string is on the ninth fret. I would suggest that you practice playing the note E in these positions back and forth until you can find the note E without effort.

You will also find the note E in a lower octave on the fourth string and the second fret. On the fifth string you will find the same note on the seventh fret.

The sixth string is an E one octave lower. Let’s invent an exercise to help you find the E notes on the guitar fretboard:

The task is to play the strings on the guitar in this order:

6 5 4 3 2 1 2 3 4 5 6

As you play the strings the notes you play shall be the note E. This means that the sixth string and the first string are open strings and on the other strings you have to find the right fret.

Try to play slowly in an even tempo until you don’t have to think about where to place you fingers. When you find this easy to do you can proceed by choosing another note, for example G and use the same method.

Knowing the notes on the guitar fingerboard is important in many ways.

To find your way around on your guitar will be a great help for you, not only when you play guitar sheet music but also when you are playing by ear or try to figure out the name of a chord or are playing by ear!
