He only strums up that high to help viewers see more clearly. It keeps the focus (for the strum pattern AND the strings) right up in your face.

For some of the tougher songs he’s done lessons on he’ll strum normally for ease–it’s all for us <3!

The slide from the 2 to 4 then to 3 and slide 4 back to 2 is on the intro to boom boom boom by John Lee Hooker, what I like about this is adding the E note gives it a much fuller sound, nice thanks for sharing.
