So, do you always wind clockwise?
101camdaman :
thanks, really helpful
ConPassioneDolce :
Thanks for this video. I’m still learning (just picked up the guitar a couple days ago) and I was nervous to restring my guitar not knowing what I’m doing, but this video made it pretty darn easy. Of all the different ways I could have messed it up…none of them occurred. Thanks for the help!
insaneinthebrain1978 :
@SyaoranXiaoLi just take a pair of pliers, grab the little head of the peg and pull it out gently while twisting very slightly left and right.
get it?
but be careful!
most of the pegs are made out of cheap, weak plastic.if you are to rude your going to behead that little sucker! hope that helps…all the best…max
insaneinthebrain1978 :
@ak137lg keep on winding and cut it off when finished.
greez…max
insaneinthebrain1978 :
@bornguilty6969 dont blame the strings dude !
i m using ddarrios for years now and they never broke when i put em on.
where do they break exactly?
near the bridge or the nut?or in beetween….if you breaking strings that often than youve got a problem with your guitar or your stringing technique…i can post a video on restringing to help you out?!
all the best…max
insaneinthebrain1978 :
@1KOOLRIFF dont punch it…it wont help!
keep the pin in place with your fingertip while your tune the string up to pitch.
that should work fine.
if not….
punch it !!!
nanaimogirl2000 :

arcaneminded :
@09jpick 3:04
09jpick :
you left out he part about leaving slack so you have room to wind 2-3 times.
Daver869 :
for those who followed this video and broke a string or two. Here’s a tip from personal experience: IT IS BEST that you have your guitar laying down on a flat surface when you’re chaging strings rather then holding it like the guy in the video does. It makes the string changing process a lot smoother! As for those who broke their string, I’m not sure how that happened, the most common way of a new string breaking is either tuning it to high or not having enough wraps around it. Hope this helps,
Daver869 :
@JoeSingsBadly watch a lot of different string changing videos and pick your favorite
1KOOLRIFF :
I’m seriously about to punch my guitar, my bridge pin keeps coming out.
CoolSliminns :
@smio2 literally the exact same happened to me just now, fecking g strings
smio2 :

psychokillerbiki :
thx It helped alot
bornguilty6969 :
I’ve done all those steps 5-8 times, EVERYTIME a String broke!
I have spent like $25-40 on SHITTY D’Adarrio strings or Earnie ball!
WTF!
BDP20PBC :
@1uzi98suicide5 good call
BigCrusher96 :
Your using Martins strings right? cuz they are the same (the 0.12 and 0.38 in one package)
swaahhnnie :
@JoeSingsBadly @JoeSingsBadly when i restring my guitar, i place a clean cloth on top of the strings while i tune the new string, so if it snaps it won’t hit my eyes. This is a tip from a lead guitarist friend of mine. It works on me. Just be patient. You may try it.
soaponthewall1 :
@mdesrosii i so damn not going to frikin use this shit vid
ledzepphead1 :

You know that now the YouTube limit has been upped to 15 minutes right
surfer1211 :
@melindaedes
Its all at your own pace, whenever you feel comfortable with something move onto something harder. You’ll just know when you’re ready for something more; because the level you’re at becomes almost repetitive, just play the stuff you’re at over and over and over than you’ll know when to go to the next step. I’ve been playing for only 2 years and I’ve taught myself, with no lessons, so much. You’ll figure it out.

Hi Paul – thanks man! On youtube we are limited to no more than 11 minutes per video. On the site at nextlevel guitar dotcom we have no time constrictions. Often the youtube lessons are shorter abbreviated lessons or pieces of lessons. Many of them do go on the site but we put the full lessons on the site. Plus the site has many many lessons that are not on youtube. Right now there are about 900 lessons on the site and growing and we add new content every month. Take care and rock on! David T
pjpayette :
Hey David – Great stuff!!! Do the youtube videos make it to your website?
Thanks,
Paul
21kpatriot :
Hi David! Been watching your videos for quite a while now and everyone really does a great job but you are the best when it comes to subtle nuances in tone and texture of the music, “don’t just keep everything on 10 all the time!” I love it! Anyway the Vox VT series of amps is getting LOTS of attention and I’d love to see you do a review/ comparison to the Line 6 Spider I amp you use in your vids and get some honest feedback,(pun intended) on what you think of it. Thanks a million and SUSTAIN!!
kevinjaques1960 :
@PeterBro10 Try this for a Bm chord, it is much like the C shape..xx4432….use your 1st finger on the high E, 2nd finger on the B string, 3rd finger on the D string, and pinky on the G string…don’t play the E or A strings, or if you can, mute the E and A with your thumb and 3rd finger respectively…Good luck A good way to practice this is to shape the Am chord without using your index finger, then slide up 2 frets and add your index finger on the 2nd fret of the high E string

melindaedes :
Dear David! I’m from Israel and playing only for 2 weeks, and I think my biggest problem is that I don’t have enaugh patient to wait for when do I get better. It would really help me, if U’d say at least aproximatly how much time do I have to practice somthing to get better. I know it’s very different for each person, but there must be an evredg time or something….. Like, is it okay, thatafter 2 weeks I can play the open chords and F too, but I can’t play barchords?
mynameisjonas45 :
Dang he has fast fingers.
CRAIGARRR :
So to improvise on this theme..
I can make up any kind of lick that is in the minor pentatonic scale and then just resolve it to the same minor chord progression while strumming?(or Major chord strumming and play a lick in the minor pentatonic scale?) Does it sound ok to play a Major chord progression and then play a lick in the same minor pentatonic key? Or other way around.. Play a minor chord progression and then play a Major pentatonic scale lick?
rockongoodpeople :

Hi – monster cables makes a good speaker to head cable also. I am not familiar with the Lava or Klotz cables so I really cant comment on them. I really like the Mogami cables. High quality cables are a huge part of the tone as well as will save you headaches of continually fixing or replacing cheaper cables. Best of luck
rock on!

@MasterofWebDesign
I am an almost 51 year old guy, who got a nice Telecaster on his 50th birthday. Believe me it works at every age. It just depends on your ambition and passion.
Go for it
Norbert
hawg427 :
David, I know you had reccomended Mogami Guitar cables and they are on my list but what do you think about Lava or Klotz? Speaker cable doesn’t have as many choices. Mogami more than likely.
jec5476 :
@PeterBro10 How are you playing it? (I’m 47 and been playing for 9 months so take any advice with a major grain of salt) I find it easier to just play the full barre chords for the B than the individual fingerings. I had lots of problems with the B chords as well and at around 6 months I mysteriously started getting better so hang in there (see my YT diary videos). I’m taking in-person lessons now, but I’ve l learned a lot from these videos!

Dave, awesome lessons all the way. I started to play an electric thanks to you and while you can’t be really proud of such a pupil you are my teacher anyway.
I like all that elan and positivism you’re bringing in every single video.
One little thing I don’t like this time is the rhythm you get – for that – and also for ppl who often have problems with fitting some arbitrary lick into the rhythm (I met many of them really) – I created tutorial only about this: TfAldk_rL3s
