Free Acoustic Guitar Lessons For Beginners Or Advanced

Free Acoustic Guitar Lessons For Beginners Or Advanced

If you’re just a beginner learning guitar I’m sure you’re anxious to learn a few basics as soon as you can on your new guitar. If you have not purchased an acoustic guitar just yet keep up the research and ask lots of questions. They’re cheaper than ever, but new ones are still a little pricey. And you probably want to spend as little as possible on lessons if you’ve paid for a new guitar, a used one or if you haven’t bought one at all yet. (everyone likes to save money!)

As far as personal free guitar lessons, they are pretty impossible to come by unless you have a friend who is also a great guitar player who’d be willing to teach you some things. It wont be anything like paid by the hour training from an instructor. If your friend was willing to teach you actual lessons you may be able to get a friend to friend discount and consider yourself lucky for that!

If you’re still in grade school this is a great opportunity to take advantage of your schools music program, or take a class at community college for still cheaper than a one on one instructor.

There are a few great free resources online to get you started such as any sites based on giving information such as eHow or About. My recommendations are at the bottom of the page but lets focus on some other ones first.

Along with about and ehow which show you some mp3 files so you can hear how it is supposed to sound and try to replicate it. Also scales, strumming, basic chords and finger picking. There is also YouTube which has loads of great videos on learning popular acoustic guitar songs and tips and techniques.

If you’re looking for step-by-step lessons from more of an experienced tutor online click here for a full review. You can start with free lessons!

Good luck, and remember to have fun!

Stevie Ray Vaughan – Texas Flood (Long version!)

( www.youtube.com ) Long version of Texas Flood by stevie ray vaughn ! Texas Flood is an electric blues album by blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan and his band Double Trouble, released in 1983. Although “Texas Flood” has three verses of lyrics, the song is more of a prolonged guitar solo, allowing Vaughan to show off his characteristic electric blues style. During live shows, he would often play portions of this song behind his back, arousing an enthusiastic crowd response. Stylistically, “Texas Flood” is structured around the common three chord blues progression. Written and performed in the key of G (sounding F# because of Vaughan’s tuning), it is in 12/8 time, or compound time[1], which gives it a “slow burning” feel that is common in Texas blues. en.wikipedia.org

Guitar: Learn Guitar By Not Playing Guitar

Guitar: Learn Guitar By Not Playing Guitar

I suppose you think that you learn guitar by playing guitar. Well, do you learn to say the right things by talking all the time? Let’s take a look at the art of not playing guitar…

How can you learn to play guitar by not playing? Is it really possible to develop as a guitarist without touching the instrument?

In weight training it is an established fact that muscle growth takes place during rest, for example when you sleep. It doesn’t mean that you will become a famous muscle builder by sleeping. Sleeping is just a part of the overall picture called muscle growth.

Don’t ever think that you will become a good guitarist by not playing guitar at all!

But I define a good guitarist as a good musician. A good musician can convey his musical emotions to somebody else and this ability takes more than just practicing moving the fingers among all those guitar strings.

What can you do to become a better guitarist and a musician when you don’t play? Let me give you a few suggestions:

1. If you play classical guitar, get into the habit of often reading guitar sheet music without your guitar. This practice gives you training in the art of hearing the sheet music in your head and also gives you a better chance to really learn notational symbols in the music and rhythmic subtleties.

2. Take a week off from your guitar playing every now and then and use all your musical energy listening to good music or just being a good citizen. Learn to spot musical and artistic heights in the music. Listen to all types of instrumentalists. With concentration. My best listening position is laying flat on my bed with headphones on forgetting the rest of the world. Maybe you have another approach.

If you feel and enjoy musical and artistic expressions in the music these will probably be implemented in your own guitar playing sooner or later.

3. Be a good musical friend by helping somebody else to play. It will help you become more unselfish and like people more. Well, maybe you already like people sufficiently but to learn to like people is part of our development as musicians as we are supposed to give of ourselves to others when we play.

4. Prepare your body and mind for playing guitar by learning the art of relaxation and stretching your muscles. You can of course find articles on these subjects on the net. Performing in a relaxed manner will help you enjoy your own music more and will help your public to relax and enjoy your music too.

5. Take time to sit down, or stand up if you like, and ponder about what guitar playing means to you. Is there something that you would like to develop in your guitar playing that will give you more joy and happiness. Set a realistic goal and write down what you can do every week to accomplish that goal.

I believe in practicing on my guitar of course but I hope that these pieces of advice concerning not playing guitar will increase your love for your guitar and the art of playing and giving musical joy to others!

Learning to Play Guitar – 3 Easy Acoustic Rock Songs

Learning to Play Guitar – 3 Easy Acoustic Rock Songs

There have been some great rock tunes written on the acoustic guitar, and many of those are pretty darn easy to play for beginners as well.

I’ve assembled a list of 3 easy to play rock songs on the acoustic guitar. If you’re just starting out so long as you know your major and minor chords you should be able to figure these out.

I’ve provided the chords you need to know for each song, and if you would like the exact pattern you can always look for the chord progression on a guitar tab website. The best way to learn them how ever is probably to listen to the songs a couple of times and then pick them out by ear.

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) – Green Day

I can still remember playing this song. There are a few variations of it floating around, some easier then others, but over all it’s probably the easiest and most fun song on the list.

There are only four chords in the whole song: G, C, D and Em.

Listen to the song and I’m sure you’ll be able to pick up your guitar after the first verse and chorus and begin to play along. This is also a great song to strum and sing at the same time if you’re able to.

Patience – Guns N’ Roses

Everyone who’s a guitar fan loves a little GNR. This is one of the classics on their second album Lies. This is one of the only acoustic hits Guns N Roses had during their original career, not counting their recent come back.

You can play this song on the acoustic with only five different chords: C, G, D, A and Em.
There are several great tabs and chord sites which have the pattern out there but I believe if you listen to the song a couple of times you’ll pick it up pretty quick knowing that those are the chords used.

About A Girl – Nirvana

I couldn’t leave this song off the list since it’s one of the first songs I learned to play on the acoustic guitar. Another easy one for beginners Kurt Cobain was never known for his complexity but rather his simplicity.

The best version of this song to learn was recorded on their live MTV unplugged concert in the early nineties. If you can get a hold of that version it’s fantastic on the acoustic.
To play about a girl you’ll need to know the chords: Em, G, C# and F#
This is another great song to sing and play if you can.

How To Play Guitar Like A Pro

How To Play Guitar Like A Pro

Having taught the guitar for many years, I see the majority of beginners experiencing the same problems and making the same mistakes over and over again in their quest to learn how to play guitar. It’s my job to steer them through these problem areas.

These “mistakes” are basic errors that most beginners naturally tend to make. But these mistakes can cause major problems if you allow them to become habits in your playing. Unfortunately, 90% of guitarists have done just that!

Avoid These 3 Mistakes Like The plague

The three main mistakes MOST people make when learning how to play guitar are:

1: Trying to play too fast too soon.

Don’t be in such a rush. Trying to go too fast too soon causes serious problems. Sloppy playing and mistakes will become your trademark.

Learn to practice slowly and perfectly. The reason for this, is, what you program your brain and fingers with while practicing, is what you’ll get as a habitual and subconscious end result.

The GIGO computer term describes it best. Garbage In = Garbage Out. If you program a computer with faulty data, your results will be faulty too. It’s exactly the same with learning how to play guitar.

So practice everything very slowly and perfectly. Do this, and your playing will be to a higher standard than 90% of all other guitarists. Yes – even those that have been playing for years!

2: Too much body and hand tension.

Have you ever noticed how the top professionals make it all look so easy and effortless? How relaxed they are?

Take a lesson from that.

When learning how to play guitar, and in all practice sessions, you need to be as relaxed as possible at all times.

Unnecessary tension anywhere in the body when playing will stop you like a brick wall. Any “excess” tension in your fingers, hands, arms, elbows, wrists, shoulders, neck, chest, stomach, thighs, legs is extremely hazardous to learning how to play guitar properly.

Practicing the right things in the right way will give you amazing results – even if you practice only 10 – 20 minutes a day.

3: Learn the difference between practice time and noodling time.

Basically, you learn how to play guitar in two ways:- 1: when you practice, and, 2: when you noodle and try out new ideas.

Practice Time is SERIOUS Time!

It’s when you are specifically and very deliberately teaching your body and brain new motor and muscle-memory skills. This is all done very slowly, with great care and meticulous attention to detail. Never practice fast.

Practice time is where you develop muscle-memory and train your body to act in the most beneficial way for playing guitar. Remember – GIGO!

This is the foundation building time.. where you lay the foundation for learning HOW to play guitar the best way you can – without imposing limitations upon yourself through bad practice habits.

Noodling Time.

Noodling Time is where you learn how to play guitar by putting into practice what you study during your practice time. It’s where you to steal licks, chords and solos off records. It’s where you hunch over your cd player or computer with your guitar trying to hear and learn that tricky chord or lick.

It’s where good habits can easily become undone!

Better to do this… Once you learn a lick, sit down in your chair in the proper position and play that lick over and over at a slow speed while focusing on being as relaxed as possible and with absolute minimal finger movement. Program that lick, your physical movements and relaxation “perfectly” into your brain. Only when it becomes 2nd nature to you, and you “own” that lick, should you start speeding up.

But… always focus on being as relaxed as possible.

Noodling is fun, and a necessary part of learning how to play guitar. Do as much as you can. But.. don’t mistake it for real practice time. Don’t noodle with bad habits either.

Next… you need to ensure you are practicing the correct things in the correct way too. But that’s another story.
