TR-003 Beginners Transcribing Tips Guitar Lesson
In this lesson I give you a heap of tips on starting transcribing (learning songs by ear). Aimed at beginner players or those who have not worked out songs by themselves before this should make it easier for you
Taught by Justin Sandercoe. Full support at the web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! There is a great forum too to get help, no matter what the problem. And it is all totally free, no bull. No sample lessons, no memberships. Just tons of great lessons
To get help with your lesson or song look up the number at the start of the video title (like ST-123 or whatever) on the Lesson Index page. www.justinguitar.com . Support notes at www.justinguitar.com filmed and edited by justin.

I’ve been doing this transcribe thing ever since I learned slash didn’t use tabs. It’s working. This vid made me laugh and was easy to follow, however I knew most of the info. Thanks Justin! 5 stars!

@machinsky108 if u know power chords, gonna go far kid by offspring, self esteem by offspring. if ur looking for open chords, it mite sound weird but disney songs by artists like miley cyrus, jonas brothers, and artists like taylor swift have pretty straight forward progresssions.

Hey justin, what are some songs you recommend trancribing to beginners? Anythings fine, I was just wondering if you had some that would have someone start on. I tried George Benson’s solo Red Clay as my first…. didn’t work out so well haha. Thanks Justin, you rock!!!!!!!

he’s definitely right. as a beginner, it’s incredibly hard to do. it takes forever and can be frustrating but once i get it, i’m always so excited and proud that i really figured it out by ear!

WHERE DID JUSTIN GET THAT SHIRT???
pliskinn0089 :
Chords are everything you learn the chords the you know the key if you know the key you can see what scale the guitarist is using and you can work out the solo
rhymeskill :
Thank you very much. I’m going to begin transcribing all the songs I want to learn from now on. I’ll look up stuff that is too hard but for the most part I will grind it out and learn some basic songs. I really like Nirvana and find their songs relatively easy to play so I will work on those then go from there.
bulletformygizmo :
dude do u have any advice for say songs with a majority note rhythm rather than like chords ??
an do u find it still works on say rock songs like distorted ??
scottycanes :
I have the same problem. You have to hear the intervals of the chords: if it’s root positioned chords or inverted chords, sevenths and ninths, etc.
Try to play arpeggios (chords one note at a time) as practice and overall: practice.
FluidDelusions :
great video justin, but i’m working on transcribing leads, i find it easier to transcribe single notes, for example a riff, than a chord progression :/ any tips for that?
papapaloo :
Windows Media Player actually has a slowdown feature too. Just click on ‘Play’ on the menu bar, where the ‘File’, ‘View’, ‘Help’ and ‘Tools’ button can be found, then click ‘Play Speed’ -> ‘Slow’ or you can just press CTRL+Shift+S to slow it down and CTRL+Shift+N to change it back to normal.
Maxpound :
I dont know if this has been posted yet but for those who don’t want to pay for transcribe there’s the plugin for winamp called pacemaker that has the slowdown feature and the remove vocals feature that more intuitive IMO. Transcribing is hard but I think its fun at the same time because you kinda see how simple the coolest riffs are.
realbeandiesel :
completely agree. in fact that’s the first thing I’d do.
