In music, a scale is a group of musical notes that are collected in ascending and descending order. A scale provides material for or is used to conveniently represent part or all of a musical work, including its melody and harmony. Scales are ordered in pitch or pitch class, with their ordering providing a measure of musical distance. This distance between two successive notes in a scale is termed as a scale step.

Obviously, guitar scales are important in learning to play guitar. In fact, they are important to play music in general. Scales are simple, and yet they determine what chords and notes youâ??ll be able to play in the future. Learning a few scales and being able to play them well will let you form chords eventually.

In order to effectively learn guitar scales, you will need to play them. In order to learn to play, you can start out by printing off a major scale. Finger the first note and practice it until you get a clear sound. Move on to the second note until you have played the entire scale, and then learn to play the scale backwards.

Again, the easiest way to learn a scale is to practice for at least fifteen minutes every day. Start out with a major scale. Practice it going first in ascending order, and then in descending order. Continue playing the scale forward and backwards for two to three times, and then move on to a different major scale.
