Yep like others said, mentioning Dream Theater makes you legit in my book; haven’t used suspended chords in my instrumentals much though.

He’s right. John Petrucci knows so much about music theory that it’s ridiculous. The band has such creative melodies that they’re such a joy to listen to over and over.

Yeah man , those suspended chords are key to achieving the full colorful spectrum of sound required to be a well rounded rhythym guitaist.
Timber in this case means it is the same key but a different expression of sound, kind of like the same scale but different intervals used and others left out.

check out this channel, they do loads of stuff on basic and beginner material, look for pentatonic scales etc.
