•    Never ever be jealous of your chosen partner!  What this means is bathe in the success of other great guitarists and learn as much as you can from them.  The ones that put themselves out there to teach have exposed themselves to help people who want to play guitar

•    Don’t keep any secrets.  Improving guitar playing means you have to work out the weak spots and find out what is needed

•    Be your own best friend.  Practicing playing the guitar means allowing yourself the time to work on you.  This will make you happy and will make your partner (teacher!) happy too

Count on yourself to learn to play guitar but also let others help you along the way.  For those who have been there done that, listen to what they have to say and make it easy on yourself.  Like a wise man who has been married a number of years they have a twinkle in their eye when they can share what has made them a great guitarist.

I had given up trying to learn to play guitar. I could play a few chords but not play any songs. Then my friend Neil Gibson asked me if I could play guitar and could I teach him to play? I met Neil at Ace Drama; which is a drama group (in Oswestry) for people with learning difficulties, founded by former TV presenter Mavis Nicholson. Probably the most versatile and coolest instrument that has ever been made is the guitar. It can be used in different genres of music; from alternative rock to country music. You can easily pack it, carry it and play anywhere. Plus just holding a guitar makes you feel cool.
