I been playing guitar for a while. I find that a combination of palming the neck and arching with the thumb against the neck is best. It really depends upon which chord I’m playing, or if im doing certain types of hammering/pull-offs. I know Hendrix palmed the guitar neck, because he used his thumb to fret sometimes. Clapton uses his thumb sometimes also, so he would palm the neck sometimes as well. no formula, just do what works best and then get really fast w/ ur fingering and transitions

is thsi for left handed people?
IThinkWereParkedMan0 :
every where i look they say to put your thumb behind the neck, i’ve played like that for a year and it just wasn’t working so i said fuck it. now i palm the guitar and i change through cords easily. i don’t think this technique is for everyone
deathrisingband :
actually there are different neck sizes, most gibson guitars have thicker necks, while in my experience Jackson, BC Rich, and Fender usually have a thinner neck than gibson guitars
but then again, it depends how the guitar was made
but if you have a problem with a normal guitar get a 3/4 scale guitar for a smaller neck and body size
RacarCatilla :
my hands are kinda small… so it’s harder for me to reach the low E string… since im not supposed to put my palm against the neck how am I supposed to reach it? also, are there different neck sizes that might be able to help (for example a skinnier neck size?) someone help please
