Want To Learn To Play Guitar? Don’T Be Shy – Four Good Reasons Why!

Too many people learn to play guitar – or any instrument for that matter – locked away in their bedroom or garage. While they might become great players in their own right, they’re missing out. Here are some good reasons to stop hiding, and get out there!

You’ll learn more

It doesn’t matter how much you practise, how many solos you listen to, how many books you read, or how many Online Guitar Tutorials you follow, you’re guaranteed to learn more by meeting and playing with other musicians. Every guitar player will have learned a few tricks, and have their own favourite riffs. Some of them will be easier than you think, if you can see someone playing them in front of you. Most musicians are more than happy to show them to you too – it’s a way of showing off what they know, and we all like to do that, whether we admit it or not.

Also, no matter how much of a beginner you are, you’re bound to meet someone else who doesn’t know your favourite tricks, and if you can teach something to another player, it feels good!

You’ll be better prepared

Some people get really good at playing by themselves (I said by themselves – stop making up your own jokes…), but never play in front of anyone. They get “stage fright” just playing with a few other musicians. This can be a real problem if you want to start playing gigs one day.

As soon as you can play something, play it in front of people. Friends, family, and other musicians too. If you’re really shy, start with the dog!

I know from personal experience that this can be a real problem, so the sooner you tackle it, the better. If you need so many drinks to calm your nerves that you can hold the guitar, it ain’t gonna work! When you learn to play guitar, you have to learn to be a show-off too! Of course, if you’re already a show-off, with a big ego, who enjoys the attention more than the music – well, maybe you should become the lead singer…

You won’t be wasting your time

Don’t forget that music is meant not just to be played, but to be heard. Who gives a monkeys if you’re the best player on the planet, if nobody ever sees you play? When you tell people you play guitar, they don’t generally ask for a recording of your best solos. They usually say “Cool, are you in a band? Are you playing any gigs?”. Of course, if you’re a solo singer-songwriter, you don’t need a band, but you still need an audience.

You’ll have fun

You’re probably not a trappist monk, so you don’t need to sit in a room in silence. You’re probably not studying for a masters degree in music theory, so you don’t need to treat your guitar like a text book. Meet a few like-minded people, have a laugh, swap a few jokes, tell a few stories. You might never get as far as live gigs, but shooting the breeze with a few other musicians and a few beers beats a night out in a bar any day. It will broaden your horizons in many different ways, even if you’re only playing as a hobby. You never know, that bass player you meet might end up getting you a great job one day.

In summary, the best thing you can do for your guitar playing, almost from day one, is to join a band, and start playing some gigs. You’ll get the buzz, make some friends, be ready for anything, and the experience will raise your musicianship higher than anything you can do alone.

There are some superb Guitar Lessons available these days, which represent superb value for money when compared with private tuition. They’re probably cheaper than all the books and DVDs you could end up buying, too! If you want Learn to Play Guitar, you owe it to yourself to look at them.

Learn to Play Guitar Like A Pro with Guitar Strum Patterns

Most everyone starts out by learning a few different guitar strum patterns on the guitar. Although the basic strum patterns are hard enough to master once you get them down you can really start to enjoy playing the guitar. If you want your playing to sound better than it really is it is time to master a few guitar strum patterns that will make your music come alive.

When you start strumming the guitar your patterns will consist of upstrokes and down strokes. An upstroke is when you move your pick toward you in an upward manner and a down stroke starts at the top and goes down. All of your guitar strum patterns will be some variation of this basic movement. When you start adding in variations and different timing patterns your playing will start to sound really good.

The more simple strum patterns usually consist of even up and down strokes. In this type of pattern everything is even with the strums being played not real hard or soft. Take the time to find the right balance and your guitar strum patterns should start to sound right.

Speed plays a big part in your picking. The tempo you play in has a lot to do with how your music feels. Try playing a simple pattern slow and then double the speed using the same pattern and you should feel a lot of difference in the overall feel of the music even though the strum pattern you are playing is exactly the same except for the speed of the notes.

When you feel you have mastered the basic strum patterns it may be time to move on to bigger and better ways to play. There are many ways to learn more advanced ways to play guitar. You can find a local teacher, buy books and videos in almost any style you can think of or go online and do a search for guitar strum patterns.

If you take the time to learn a few different strum patterns your guitar playing will come alive. You can play any style or type of music you want just by mastering the correct strum pattern.

Guitar strum patterns are one part of your guitar playing you need to spend time working on. The right hand is just as important as the left hand in guitar playing. Take the time to figure out the best way to learn and give the method you choose time to work and you should be making beautiful music before you know it.

How to Play Guitar Like a Rockstar

Learning to play guitar can be easy and fun. Forget about reading boring instruction books that teach you how to play songs your grandparents listened to. Forget about having to go to a guitar instructor and playing boring scales, chords, and God knows what.

Instead, there’s a much easier way. And best of all, you don’t have to pay a ton of money. Conservatively estimating, most people will spend close to $600 to $1000 or more for a year’s worth of guitar lessons with a private instructor. (That’s about $20 a half hour lesson once a week)

For that money, you can buy yourself a nice Washburn, Fender, or whatever the case may be. There are many ways to learn to play guitar like a rock star. Basically, there are only two choices. You can do it the long and hard way. (You’ll be able to pat yourself on the back after years of blood, sweat and tears)

Or, you can do it the easy, fast and fun way. (You’ll be able to shock and amaze your friends and family) The choice is up to you.

Without a doubt, any professional guitar player will tell you that there is a code to crack the path to playing guitar. That code consists of knowing and understanding the basic guitar scales. These are as follows:

1. Ionian
2. Locrian
3. Lydian
4. Myxolidian
5. Phrygian
6. Aeolian

Once you learn these scales like the back of your hand, you’ll literally be able to pick out the notes from most songs you hear on the radio or TV. Just think of the look on your friends’ faces as you suddenly begin to be able to play not just your favorite tune, but THEIR favorite tune.

Imagine being the life of a party with everyone asking how in the world you learned to play so good and so fast?

Want to impress that special guy or lady? Simply pull out your guitar and work your magic. Or if you’re an amateur guitarist and you already know how to play some cool songs, you probably have had to deal with long boring exercises.

Think about where you are right now in your guitar playing journey. Are you satisfied with that? What would you feel like if 5 or 10 years from now you’re still at the same point you’re at now. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. If you don’t do something different, you’ll be stuck at the same level you’re at now.

It’s that simple. Of course, playing guitar involves a lot more, and that’s why you’d do well to search for a solid guitar playing course that will not only teach you but also that makes it fun and easy for you to learn.

But searching for the right course can be harder than parting the Red Sea. Why? Because most courses are designed for you to study, instead for you to start playing right away. Who wants to have their nose stuck in a book instead of playing their guitar?
