Learning How to Play Guitar Online

For anyone who dreams of being a rock star or for anyone who simply wants to learn a new hobby, learning how to play guitar is one of their best choices. Why? Well, aside from being a symbol of musical prowess, the guitar is one of the (relatively) “easiest” instruments to learn how to play, which also makes it the ideal stepping-stone to budding musicians.

But before you learn how to play guitar, you must first learn about its parts.

The body of the guitar is the bulky and curvy part that you first notice about it. An acoustic guitar has a hollow body and a sound hole in the middle that enables it to project the sound it creates.

Next is the guitar’s neck, which is connected to the body. The neck is the long part where the frets are located. The frets are the spaces located between the metal strips that can be found on the neck.

The neck is attached to the headstock, where the tuning pegs are found. The tuning pegs are the keys that keep the strings in place and enable the adjustment of the strings.

But you can’t know how to play guitar without learning the sound that each note makes.

You create guitar music mainly through the strings and the frets. The basic guitar has 6 strings. The 1st string is the thinnest and it makes the most high-pitched sound. The 1st string is an E note. The 2nd string is a bit thicker than the 1st and is a B note. The 3rd is a G, the 4th is a D while the thickest string, the 6th, is also an E note, but in a lower-pitch. Practice plucking each string until you recognize the different pitches and sounds they make.

Then the next thing you have to learn is to actually play notes. You can produce distinct note sounds by plucking a string while you hold down the extension of the same string on a fret. Begin by holding the 1st string down on the first fret, the one nearest to the headstock, with you fingertip and plucking its extension on the base. Continue until you have tried every fret and every string.

After learning how to play notes, study how to play a chord, which is the combination of two or more notes. Playing chords sound much better than just playing individual notes, which make you sound very “amateur-ish,” therefore, learning about chords is very important.

Once you learn the basics of guitar playing, try putting in a lot of practice hours. As cliche as it may sound, practice makes perfect. Knowing how to play the guitar is not something that can be achieved overnight. However, make sure that you have short nails and a lot of patience when you practice. The road to rock stardom is hard and literally painful (you can have swollen fingertips at the end of each practice session), but with fun and perseverance, you will surely be there one in no time.
